You actually have two brains – did you know this?
You have your normal brain, which everyone is familiar with; it’s the brain in your skull, which is the mechanical chief operating officer of the body. What you also have is a tummy brain, this is called the enteric nervous system, this system, has 5X the amount of neurons (these just carry signal through your body to let it know what is going on) than that of the brain. This is the reason why we get gut feelings about things, whether it is brought on by a positive or negative event. Your gut is telling you the answer via the neurons.
So how does this impact you…..? Well everything emanates from the core, movement especially. Without a strong core unit, movement will not be facilitated in the right pathway creating insufficiency to stabilize correctly at the right site, causing the inner unit to not work and protect your spine. For those whom do a lot of heavy lifting in functional exercise, having the right stabilizer muscles working is imperative otherwise you will not protect the spine. When doing this over and over under heavy loads, it’s only a matter of time before you injure yourself.
So how to get good core activation and make sure you stabilize when doing a heavy workout:
· Clean up your diet – organic food free of preservatives and pesticides key, refined and unnatural food only stresses the intestinal system and inflames it, which down regulates the muscles surrounding to function and ability to stabilize and activate.
· Distress through gentle exercise, meditation or yoga
· Deep diaphragmatic breathing helps to replenish and turn the system in to a relaxed state
· Easy on the alcohol, sugars coffee, prescription medication and gluten all are irritants of the small intestine, connect any of these with someone whom is under a lot of stress and it really compounds the problem.
