Hippocrates said “all illnesses arise from the gut”. Given our modern day lifestyles and diets, if in fact this is true, we as a society really need to take notice. With the continual rise in lifestyle related disease and a 1 in 2 chance of cancer, maybe Hippocrates was right on the money.
Here some of the things you may not have known, can be caused by, as my pop would say “crook guts”.
Autoimmune conditions, dysfunctional core muscles, organ dysfunction, fatigue, lethargy, colds, flus, cancer, bad back and much much more!
There is a reason why illnesses start in the gut. To put it short, we have something which is called GALT (gut associated lymphatic tissue) this is saturated in the intestines and is a important component of the body’s immune system. This if under stress can become irritated inflamed and set off a negative auto-immune response in the body, eventually resulting in illness. More about this in coming issues!
Today we are so busy with work, family, sport and worry the amount of stress running around our systems is higher than ever. This isn’t even taking into account electromagnetic, environmental, exercise related stress which in a lot of cases just exacerbates pre-existing issues.
Stress compounded with poor diets, such a foods from unnatural sources, food intolerances, water full of fluoride and pasteurized dairy, we are setting ourselves up for future illnesses. Not to mention the amount of alcohol we drink and sleep we miss out on too..
Tick the boxes on nearly everything I have mentioned there…. Yeah me to; when I first learnt about this stuff.
So what to do?
· Eat only or as much as possible organic food
· Get in bed by 10.30 and sleep till 6am
· Moderate your workouts to a couple of high intense sessions with some meditation or pilates, yoga or a bush walk on some days
· Do stuff you enjoy
· Drink reverse osmosis filtered water
Limit time in front of the the TV, mobile and computer, all of this is heavy on your nervous system and a stress
